Love-Infused Sublimation Tumblers: Sizing, Settings, and Romantic Design Resources for Valentine’s Day

Sublimation tumblers have gained popularity for their vibrant and long-lasting printed designs. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced in sublimation, this guide will provide you with essential information on sizing images, sublimation settings, determining tumbler size, preventing ghosting, and finding free design resources.

Sizing Images for Sublimation Tumblers:
When sizing images for sublimation tumblers, consider the following steps:
Measure the printable area of the tumbler.
Design or resize your image to fit within the printable area.
Calculate the dimensions based on the measurements.
Test and adjust the image size on a sample tumbler before production.

For Example:

Sizing Wrap for a 20 oz Tumbler

For a 20 oz skinny tumbler you basically need to print the entire 8.5″ x 11″ sublimation paper.

Sublimation Temperature and Settings for Tumblers:
The sublimation temperature for tumblers depends on the specific equipment and materials used. Follow manufacturer instructions for the best results.
In general, sublimation is done at high temperatures, typically ranging from 350 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (175 to 200 degrees Celsius).

Sublimation settings vary based on equipment and materials. It’s crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines. Consider these factors:

First, prepare a Tumbler Heat Press Machine

Temperature: Typically between 350 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (175 to 200 degrees Celsius).
Time: Usually around 60 to 90 seconds.
Pressure: Apply firm and even pressure during sublimation.

Preventing Ghosting on Sublimation Tumblers:
Ghosting refers to unwanted residue or shadows on sublimated designs. To minimize ghosting:
Ensure the tumbler surface is clean and free from any contaminants before sublimation.
Use high-quality sublimation paper and ink.
Follow recommended sublimation settings.
Apply even pressure during sublimation.

Wrap the print tightly around the tumbler making sure that if you left a small white margin on one side, it is overlapping the other side at seam.

Use a piece of high temperature tape and place it on the overlap side in the middle and pull it tight as you wrap and press it horizontally across the seam. Now you need to take a long piece of tape and run it along the entire length of the seam.

Flip the tumbler over so the top is now facing up. There should be no overhang at all. Use small pieces of tape (1-2″ max) and put them half on the sublimation paper and then fold over tightly into the inside of the tumbler. Press all the tape down well. You need to keep the air out and prevent any wrinkles where air could get in.

When the time is up, remove the tumbler from the press. I recommend immediately dunking in cold water to cool the tumbler down and stop the sublimation process.
Remove the sublimation wrap paper and tape.
